This page contains some samples of Art commissions that I have done for various Churches and Temples, including Orthodox, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Catholic, Jewish, and others. This is the levitating Corpus at St Catherine's of Sienna. My favorite of all theological commissions I have done. I carved the figure from Basswood, which is a very unusual lightweight American hardwood. I chose it so the sculpture would be light enough to suspend on tiny aircraft cables from the Oculus. To accomplish this, since basswood is a small tree, I had to laminate a large enough piece to carve from. I made the cross hollow. Even though nearly invisible, the cables are safely rated at 25 times their load. Consequently, it appears even in life, to be "levitating" in the beam of light from the oculus. I suspended a model from a tree to study the true anatomy of a body crucified by the wrists. The angst of death on a cross, and thus its concept of sacrifice is better conveyed. Qr click here to see life size bronze statue of Fr. McGivney and Orphan. This priest was exhumed so I could make a forensic reconstruction from his skull, since no photographs existed of the 19th century priest. Very interesting story.
